Katarina started skating ice at the age of five. When her talent for skating was more evident, she received an entry to a Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on children who have a athletic ability. The school was where she met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Following that, she started winning the competition with her elegance and grace. Olympic success At Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's in a highly competitive contest. In a more competitive competition, afterward, she won her gold medal. In fact, she did not win the free-skating contest, however, she was awarded gold for her results during the compulsory short and figure programme. Witt was the only woman ever since Sonja Haenie who was a repeat figure skating winner. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the figure skating sport to take part in the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd despite not winning an award. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1995.
